Maddie Bautista is an award-winning sound designer & composer, theatre artist, artist-educator, and producer. She is a Bi, Saudi Arabia-born Filipinx artist based in Toronto. Open to contract work in the city and can travel across Canada for work.

As a sound designer, Maddie has been nominated for a Dora Award for her music in Eraser at RISER 2019. Her sound design and compositions have been featured in theatre companies and festivals across the country, including Luminato, Theatre Passe Muraille, Aluna Theatre, b current, rEvolver Festival in Vancouver, High Performance Rodeo in Calgary, and more. Her design work has encompassed a variety of performance forms and genres: composing for and directing a 20-person choir for an outdoor Shakespeare play, leading a junk percussion ensemble for a touring TYA show, looping her voice and piano live for an rock-opera on yellow fever, or combining lush, orchestral sound with recorded and gifted Tagalog song.

Award-winning performance and original work has included the SummerWorks Spotlight Performance Award 2016 for her performance in My Nightmares Wear White, Nightswimming’s 5x25 2017 Commission and NOW Magazine’s Audience Choice Award 2018 for co-creating 4inXchange in her performance art duo xLq, which is currently touring across Canada. She is the recipient of fu-GEN Theatre’s inaugural Walk the Walk Commission for emerging femme Asian-Canadian playwrights for her play Kersey Kamayan Gets Woke.

She is the 2018-2019 sound design mentor with the AMY Project, and is co-developing their Design Mentorship Program training young womxn and non-binary youth in the GTA.

Recent acting credits include: RARE Theatre’s Welcome to my Underworld, Bad New Days’ Paolozzapedia, and SpiderWebShow’s The Revolutions.

She is the Co-Artistic Producer of xLq with Jordan Campbell, Co-Producer of Theatre Amihan with Adriano Sobretodo Jr. and Festival Producer of Tales from the Flipside, and creator-performer at Bad Muse Collective with Deanna H. Choi.
