I was in first grade when the 2000 US presidential election was in full swing. The excitement was palpable.I remember grown-ups screaming on TV constantly! Curious, I asked teachers, parents of friends, and my school bus driver which candidate would get their vote. "Oh honey," they always said. "You shouldn't be asking this. You'll understand when you're older." Sometimes, the adults yelled back, offended by my nosiness. I didn't know it then, but that was my journalism Origin Story. I wanted some answers, and I wanted to be in the business of asking people what made them sad, excited, angry, and ticked off.
Since then, I've written about free speech issues at Jesuit universities, group therapy for Latinx wildfire survivors in Northern California, and growing up biracial in the US and China. This past year, I was the immigration reporter for Uptown Radio, Columbia University's weekly radio news show. I reported on local efforts to increase the immigrant count for the 2020 Census, street vendors facing obstacles when applying for pandemic relief aid, and volunteers delivering free meals in Chinatown to housebound seniors.
Apart from reporting, I have experience in audio editing, scripting, hosting, booking guests, and podcast packaging. I graduated from Columbia University's School of Journalism this past May with a Masters of Science degree.
Most recently, I was on the social engagement and reporting team at the Center for Public Integrity's investigation on mental health care following natural disasters. I have also done freelance sound design and editing work for a narrative-driven podcast for Adolescent Content, aimed for tweens.
I am currently available for freelance, part-time, and full-time work in audio. Preferably, I would like to work on a news-driven show/project.

Favorites:
-I stumbled upon Radio Lab's "Finding Emilie" episode on Tumblr back in 2012, and have wanted to produce audio ever since. In this 2011 episode, listeners follow the story of Emilie, who was unresponsive after being hit by a truck. Her boyfriend Alan, narrates much of the story, --> https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/radiolab/segments/110206-finding-emilie
-I've been listening to Terry Gross on NPR’s Fresh Air for as long as I can remember. My favorite interview of hers is with Ali Brosch back in 2013. Brosch is a webcomic artist, and known for being reclusive (taking long hiatuses from social media, making fans worry about her well-being). Gross is known for her empathy, which shines through when she asks Brosch about her battle with depression. All these years later, I am struck by Gross' gentleness when allowing Brosch to slowly open up on the radio. https://www.npr.org/transcripts/244758140
-My recent podcast addiction: Time to Say Goodbye, a show hosted by journalists E Tammy Kim, Jay Caspian Kang, and historian Andy Liu. Each week, the hosts do a deep-dive on a hot topic issue either in America or Asia. They've done episodes on South Korea's test and trace program, re-education camps in Xinjiang, wet markets in China, media coverage of Kamala Harris' racial identity, and affirmative action.
